Welcome to Saturday! You made it through the week, great job! One of the things I like to do on the weekends is watch a musical. It can be a musical that is adapted into a movie, it can be a pro shot of the original Broadway cast, it can be actually going to see a live shot in person. However I watch, it’s always a ton of fun.
This week, I wanted to talk about Wicked – the movie adaptation. I was lucky enough to go see it in theaters the weekend it opened, and oh my goodness! It was great. I had my doubts going in, mostly because I was concerned about Ariana Grande’s singing. Pop singers singing in a more Broadway style (or let’s face it, classical style) doesn’t always turn out well. But I was pleasantly surprised, and it didn’t take me out of the story at all.
I had seen the Wicked national tour several times, so I was familiar with the story, and I really appreciated the way they translated things into a movie. I’ll also admit that once upon a time, I had read the book the musical is based off, and let me tell you – just don’t do that. The book is…well, I’m not even sure how to describe it.
I’m curious to see what they do with Part 2, as the second half of the musical show is significantly shorter. I’ve heard hints that there will be new songs, which will be interesting to see how those fit in. What do you think? Did you love Wicked as much as I did?
