I was really looking forward to seeing this one. I haven’t seen it live, and they just recently released it for viewing at home. This is the first opportunity I’ve had to sit down and dive into watching.

I didn’t know a lot about the show going in. I had a vague idea that it was about a waitress (duh), and pies, and was associated somehow with Sara Bareilles. But you know, sometimes it’s nice to go in relatively blind and be pleasantly surprised by the experience.
…this wasn’t that.
I didn’t hate the show. I just don’t really have any strong feelings about it. I kind of feel like I might not be the right audience for it. I’ve been a baking fanatic for pretty much my whole life. Meaning that I can make a pie fairly easily. And well, pie dough is kind of delicate in my experience. They were whacking it around in the staging and that disconnect really pulled me out of the show.
I also didn’t feel any connection with Jenna, the main character. I was much more interested in the side story that involved Dawn and her overcoming her fear of dating than I was with Jenna and her fling with her OB-GYN.
The singing was wonderful, the staging was interesting, but I just think this one’s not for me.
