Yeah ok I know, but listen.
It’s a musical. It even has Sutton Foster in it, so it must be a musical. Right?
Honestly, I’m not sure how I have missed seeing this one before. I had seen the first Shrek movie when it first came out, but I don’t believe I’ve seen the sequels. It makes a weird staged musical. And we know how I feel about Sutton Foster, so I won’t go into that again.

The show is fine. But what fascinated me was how the characters were developed to be a human rather than an animated character. Fairy tales aren’t exactly known for having a lot of “normal” characters, so seeing how those translated onto the stage while maintaining their animated depictions was super interesting.
Take Lord Farquaad for example. In the movie, we know he’s short. But how to portray this in a staged show without having to use little people? Some genius came up with the idea of the actor to walk on their knees and have the costumer make fake tiny legs. This sounds kind of ridiculous in theory, but in practice it absolutely comes across.
While I’m not eager to watch this one again, it was an interesting watch, and I’d recommend seeing it at least once, if only for the portrayal of the characters.
