Once upon a time, craftspeople were honored for their crafts. This is because they created something useful for themselves and/or the village they lived in. They contributed in some way.
These days, most of the things that were traditionally done by these craftspeople has been outsourced. Some to other countries, some to large scale manufactures, and some have just died out.

However, that doesn’t mean that the crafts we still do, and are interested in, aren’t useful. We might sew our own clothing because we can make it fit ourselves perfectly. We might make a quilt to keep ourselves warm at night. We might knit a sweater for a loved one to give them a hug from us every time they wear it.
Also, just for the record, stress relief is a useful tool in my book!
Crafts serve a variety of purposes. And they also don’t have to serve any purpose at all besides making the creator enjoy themselves. You don’t have to monetize your hobby. You just have to enjoy it. I personally like to have all kinds of crafts going that fulfill me in different ways. Not everyone does, and that’s ok. Not everyone likes the same crafts, which makes it a beautiful world.
Tell me, what do you think about crafts as useful items? Yes? No? Opinions?
