It’s that time of the week again, time to talk about another Broadway show! This week we look at the classic musical Chicago.

This was the movie version from 2002, and I think it’s a great representation of the show. The actors all do a pretty good job with their characters, and I feel like it’s believable overall. (As much as Broadway ever is!) And most of all, it’s fun to watch. At the end of the day, I think that’s the goal of entertainment. You want to feel invested in the story and care about what happens to the characters.
Chicago does that for me, and I think that is what was missing from Waitress last week. You want to know if Roxie Hart is convicted or not, and if she is able to make it in show business after. It definitely doesn’t hurt that there are a bunch of singable tunes sprinkled throughout the show that most of us have heard at some point. Razzle Dazzle and All That Jazz are just fun, and the themes of corruption are still applicable to today, just as they were when the show was written.
