Anything Goes: A Musical Review

Posted on April 12, 2025July 25, 2025 by Kelly

Let me start out this one by saying I’m not really a Sutton Foster fan. Her dancing, sure. Her singing, not so much. It’s not so much that she has a bad voice, it’s just that I think she has been getting cast in things that don’t fit her voice.

With that said, let’s talk about this show.

It’s a lovely show visually. The costumes are great, the sets are great, it all looks good. I love Cole Porter’s music. But I just don’t find myself interested in the actual story all that much. It’s all a bit too ridiculous.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a silly story and star-crossed lovers and all that. However, this show always comes off a bit too Keystone Cop-esque for me. That trope has its place, but a whole show of it becomes too much for me and I just can’t get into it.

We can watch Sutton Foster do her song and dance to the title song, and honestly, that’s about all I want to see from this show. Everything else is just fluff. Pretty fluff, but fluff nonetheless.
