Back again with another opera, but remember, this one you already know. We talked about it a little last week – this is the opera that Rent is based on.

This means that the story is the same, well, basically the same. Rent was updated to modern day, but the essence of the story is the same. The interactions between the characters are essentially the same. If it helps you keep track, the names in both shows mostly start with the same letters.
La Boheme shows the story of a group of artists that are struggling, living the bohemian lifestyle (hence the name). It focuses mostly on Rudolfo and Mimi and their relationship, but does encompass the whole friend group.
That said, I don’t really care for La Boheme all that much. It’s the music, unfortunately. I’m not a huge fan of Puccini. There are lovely moments, but as a composer overall, he’s not my favorite. I’d recommend you watch it at least once, to make your own decisions, but I’m probably not going to watch it again.
