These days, social media rules online. Influencers are everywhere. Everyone’s life looks idyllic and perfect, all the time.
Guess what?
That’s not reality.
People only choose the best pictures to put online. Measuring yourself against them is only going to make you feel bad about yourself. So don’t do it.

Measure yourself against where you were previously. Are you sewing a line a little straighter than you were yesterday? Success! Are your cookies just a little better than last week’s? Amazing!
It’s about the journey and the steps you take along the way. It’s not about being perfect, especially not right away. I think these days this is an issue that maybe wasn’t as prevalent in the past. We see all of these other people who are seemingly perfect, and we compare ourselves to them. I have been sewing for a long time, and I still get excited if my seams line up correctly. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s about knowing yourself well enough to know that you are improving.
I like to see other people’s pretty pictures, but I also recognize the hard work that goes into a completed craft. It takes time and patience, and these days it’s hard to find.
How do you motivate yourself when you are feeling these blues? I like to look back at my past projects as kind of an “I did that!” kind of moment.
