I’m going to come out and say it: Pippin is a weird story. We’re going to gaslight this guy into thinking he’s the chosen one and then attempt to get him to set himself on fire?
Yeah, that’s super weird.
We can delve into the subtext and talk about how peer pressure is a thing and how standing up to everyone is to be celebrated. But it’s just a weird story, and maybe I just don’t get it.
Which is fine!

The 50th anniversary semi-staged concert just recently came out on BroadwayHD, so of course I had to watch it. For a weird show that I don’t particularly like, it was fine. Actually, it kind of grew on me. At first, I wasn’t really into the production. But by the end, I did enjoy it, even if I don’t enjoy the story itself.
We then decided to go back and watch the movie, with Ben Vereen. I think I actually ended up liking the semi-staged concert better, because then I could at least watch the orchestra.
I don’t know, this is just a weird show in general, and I have mixed feelings about it. The ending is strange (and can change depending on the production as there are several accepted endings), and it’s just not my cup of tea.
Have you seen Pippin? How do you feel about it?
